Loving Live Liev…

Spinning Boris Prem - March 2004

As my New York trip draws closer, and I think on all the sights I will undoubtedly see, I wondered what it would be like to see Liev on stage. It has regularly been something I think about when I see him in a film, as I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing him live.

After our Moderator ROGUEFURY posted an interview with Liev and his director from ‘Talk Radio’, I began to wonder what it would actually be like to meet him in person, as well as see him perform.

I regularly see tweets from New Yorkers who squeal over the delights of seeing Liev out and about, and wonder why people don’t just treat him like a normal person, doing what people do every day. Then I watched the interview…

I’ve known for a long time how truly overwhelmingly talented Liev is, and watching the interview had me thinking about what it would actually be like to meet him and talk to him. I would love to talk to him about his work, and what he loves most about it, who and what inspires him, why Shakespeare is so close to his heart. But, the more I think about it, the more terrified I become!

Liev is so tremendously capable at what he does, and is so passionate and knowledgeable, his very presence would completely unnerve me! I’d be completely lost for words, and wouldn’t be able to articulate a single question or sentence that could ever match his gentle eloquence.

One of the courses I am doing for my Creative Writing/Literature degree, is Shakespeare. I did a lot of Shakespeare at school, and some at college, and have seen many plays over the years, the last being The Comedy of Errors the week after my Gran died. I’ve not actually studied Shakespeare since college 10 years ago, and it is somewhat daunting to be doing it again after all this time. I think daunting is how I would feel about talking to Liev! There’s a reason so many people call him one of the finest and accomplished actors of our time, particular Shakespearean.

I think Liev could, in all honesty, be 4’3″ instead of 6’3″; his exuberance and zeal for his work would still dominate a room! He isn’t a person who is easily overlooked, and I don’t think it would be right if he was.

At almost 30, meeting Liev would probably turn me into a 12 year old school girl with a crush on the latest boy band! I’d certainly be just as tongue-tied and nervous!
