Liev Schreiber, star of the Showtime series Ray Donovan will be the narrator of two new films set to premiere at the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation’s 2013 Tribute Dinner honoring the Bielski brothers and the partisans of the Bielski Brigade.
Schreiber, portrayed Zus Bielski in the motion picture Defiance which also starred Daniel Craig.
The Bielski brothers, led by Commander Tuvia Bielski, organized the largest Jewish resistance unit during World War II, saving over 1,200 Jews. Today, there are more than 15,000 descendants of the Bielski Brigade, many of whom will be in attendance, including the youngest Bielski brother, Aron Bell. A highlight of the evening includes a keynote presentation by Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz and the Honorable Irwin Cotler, both distinguished defenders of human rights worldwide and admirers of Tuvia Bielski.
Filmmaker Mark Birnbaum said “Indeed the message of this movie remains vitally relevant and interesting during today’s times.”
JPEF is dedicated to the development and distribution of effective resource materials about the Jewish partisans, bringing the celebration of heroic resistance during World War II to educational and cultural settings. Tickets for the evening can be purchased online at www.jewishpartisans.org/bielskitribute.
